E-learning evaluation resource pack
UKCLE funded project

Project summary: development of a resource for the evaluation of e-learning applications
Start date: June 2006
Funding: £12,000 (JISC Distributed e-Learning Programme)
When we think of e-learning within higher education we frequently come across the words ‘reinventing the wheel’. Individual academics developing e-learning applications within their own law schools are frequently unaware of similar work being carried out within their own or other disciplines. Sometimes institutional competitive pressures stifle the ability to share knowledge or expertise, especially with other institutions competing for a share of the same target student audience.
UKCLE is seeking to develop new initiatives to reach out to those in the sector who may be starting to develop teaching and learning tools using technology and to those who, having designed applications, are now seeking guidance as to how they can increase uptake or further embed the applications in their courses.
This project is aimed at opening communication channels within and across the legal education community to overcome institutional barriers and to allow individuals to collaborate and share resources and expertise with one another. It seeks to foster a culture of sharing resources while giving advice and assistance with the evaluation of e-learning projects.
A resource pack will be developed to enable law schools to self evaluate their e-learning applications, incorporating the guidelines and templates for the evaluation of e-learning included in the JISC guide Effective practice with e-learning. The evaluation techniques developed for this project will, where possible, be piloted in UK law schools.
